Support Us Now

Over the last two years, we've put a lot of work into expanding the what we do at Lazy Thinking.

What began as a place for artists to perform, has gradually grown into something broader. Alongside the venue, we've continued to develop Lazy Thinking Records, launched a new artist residency program, begun building Lazy Thinking Sync and started work on a free music education initiative.

At the same time, we've spent a lot of time thinking about the traditional models that support independent music. Across Australia, independent music venues are closing at an alarming rate, and many of the organisations that support artists are increasingly turning to community support and philanthropy to sustain and expand their work.

The reality is that the traditional model of venues surviving almost entirely through bar sales is becoming increasingly difficult for many operators. More importantly, even when that model does work, it only solves part of the problem.

Independent artists need more than places to play. They need opportunities to learn, create, release work, connect with audiences and access practical resources that help them continue making art.

We've been saying for a while that new models are needed. This is ours.

There Are Two Ways To Help

Memberships help sustain the ongoing work of Lazy Thinking: the venue, the shows, the artists, the staff, and the broader resources being built around them. They form part of a new community-supported model designed to help fund this work directly, rather than relying primarily on bar sales.

Both forms of support play an equally important role in helping us build the programs, opportunities, and infrastructure needed to support independent artists in meaningful and practical ways, while also helping ensure the long-term sustainability of this work in an increasingly challenging environment.

Support The Campaign

While memberships help sustain the ongoing work of Lazy Thinking, donations to our Australian Cultural Fund campaign help us build what's next: our residency program, education initiatives, and the infrastructure required to support independent artists beyond simply providing a place to perform.
