Lazy Thinking is an organisation focused on finding practical ways to provide meaningful support to independent and emerging artists.
A lot of what we've built over the last few years has come from conversations with artists about what they actually need. That has led us to develop a growing range of programs that provide different kinds of practical support, from our Artist Residency and free equipment for DIY shows to artist accommodation and free music education.
Alongside our membership program, we're raising tax-deductible funds through the Australian Cultural Fund to help us continue and expand this work.
Donations help fund our Artist Residency, DIY Equipment Program, Artist Accommodation Network and free music education initiatives, as well as helping us finalise and move into a new permanent home.
WHAT WE’RE DOING NOW
A growing network meaningful, always free practical support resources for independent artists.
ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Offering accommodation across two locations, an in in house recording studio, financial support and studio time with a dedicated singer and producer.
Donations help us cover the cost of accommodation, artist stipends, recording sessions and equipment provided.
DIY EQUIPMENT PROGRAM
Free sound and music equipment for independent artists and organisers putting on their own shows.
Our pool of donated equipment is already being used for DIY shows across Sydney. We're continuing to build the inventory, service the equipment and make it available free of charge.
ARTIST ACCOMMODATION NETWORK
A free accommodation network for touring and working artists to stay, provided by incredible people with spare rooms and spaces across the community.
Lazy Thinking Records
Applying the same ethos as the venue, our record label exists to exclusively support lesser known and emerging artists get their music recorded, released and heard.
Donations help fund all recording, production and release costs for the new and emerging artsits we work with through the label.
Lazy Thinking Live
Where everything started. More than 3,000 artists performed at the original Lazy Thinking venue since we first decided to put on a bit of a show in the front area of our new record store in November 2023. For nearly three years, six nights a week, independent artists were provided with a safe, inclusive and cost-free place to perform, experiment, develop audiences and build confidence.

Over the last few years we've gradually built a broader set of programs designed to support independent and emerging artists in practical ways.
A lot of that work is now up and running. Our Artist Residency, DIY Equipment Program, Artist Accommodation Network, record label and sync service are all active, while we're continuing to develop new programs including Lazy Thinking Learning.
Lazy Thinking receives no ongoing government funding. We rely donations and memberships to keep this work going, expand what we're able to offer and make it available to more artists.
