Tax-deductible donations through the Australian Cultural Fund help us broaden the ways we support independent and emerging artists.
A lot of what we've built at Lazy Thinking over the last few years has come from conversations with artists about what they actually need.
Alongside our new membership program, we're now raising tax-deductible funds to help establish and expand a series of artist-support initiatives designed to provide more meaningful, practical support for independent artists. It’s a huge part of ur new funding model.
Artist Support Phase 1 will help fund our artist residency program, free music education initiatives and venue infrastructure projects.

Lazy Thinking Live
Everything starts here.
More than 3,000 artists have performed at Lazy Thinking since we first decided to put on a bit of a show in the font area of our new record store in November 2023. A minimum six nights a week, independent artists are provided with a safe, inclusive and cost-free place to perform, experiment, develop audiences and build confidence. Thousands of artists have now held their first ever live performance at Lazy Thinking.
The venue remains the foundation of everything else we do.
Artist Residency
A residency program providing artists with accommodation, studio access, rehearsal space, mentoring, performance opportunities and direct practical support.
It’s already underway. Donations help us expand and sustain the parts of the residency that still need support, including artist stipends, studio time and producer support.
Lazy Thinking Sync
Helping independent artists generate new income streams through film, television and media placements.
Already live. Donations help us represent more artists and create more paid opportunities for early-career artists.
Lazy Thinking Records
Applying the same ethos as the venue, our record label exists to support independent and emerging artists at every stage of their career get their music produced, released and heard.
Donations help us provide more practical release, production, distribution and promotion support to artists who may not otherwise have access to those resources.
Lazy Thinking Learning
Free workshops, talks and training programs for emerging artists and the broader community.
Currently in development. Donations help us deliver these programs free of charge and keep them accessible.

Artist Support Phase 1 will help us make that work stronger, more sustainable and available to more artists.
Lazy Thinking currently receives no ongoing government funding. Every show, residency, release and artist-support initiative is funded through earned income, community support and philanthropy.
