The Lazy Thinking Artist Residency

Overview

The Lazy Thinking Artist Residency is a new program designed to provide ongoing, year round, multifaceted support to independent musical artists at every stage of their career — something deeply aligned with the core mission behind all Lazy Thinking activity.

Open to artists from Sydney/Eora, across NSW and Australia and overseas based artists, the residency is built around a desire to provide artists with temporary living and creative spaces, time, resources and support to develop their work in a meaningful way, whether they’re just starting out or have been making incredible work for years.

The residency is open to both established and new and emerging artists, and we strongly encourage ambitious-minded musical artists at every stage of their creative life (including those only just starting out) to apply. We’re less interested in where you sit commercially and more interested in the quality of your ideas, your work and your commitment to it.

This will be an ongoing residency program, with a target of one artist in residence each month.

Please note that the residency currently does not cover travel costs.

Selected artists will receive a 2–3 week residency consisting of:

  • Accommodation (if required) in a comfortable, modern one-bedroom apartment located a few doors from the venue in Dulwich Hill, in Sydney’s inner west

  • Access to the apartment’s in-house studio equipment, including studio monitor speakers, MIDI controllers and synthesizers (such as a Moog Subsequent 37). Additional equipment including microphones, electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitars, guitar pedals and amp pedals — is also available on request.

  • The venue, located just a few doors away, also has an enormous amount of cables, backline and additional equipment that can be accessed for the duration of the residency

  • Access (maximum five nights) to an additional cottage on the NSW South Coast seaside town of Gerringong. The property is located very close to the train station, so a vehicle is not required

  • Access to the Lazy Thinking space for rehearsal

  • A four-hour block of time with acclaimed producer/musician Tim Bruniges at his nearby recording studio, for project development during the residency

  • A residency performance at Lazy Thinking

  • A weekly stipend of $300 intended to support sustained creative practice during the residency
